Free tickets to see some of the biggest names in the literary world are up for grabs as part of the Pickled Egg ‘s unrivalled coverage of Ilkley Literature Festival.

Excitement in the town has already reached boiling point in the build up to the north’s most prestigious event and to add to the fun the Pickled Egg will be running a number of competitions throughout the next few weeks, offering tickets to see three of the festival’s most popular speakers – former Poet Laureate Andrew Motion and politician and diplomat Paddy Ashdown.

For the third year running we will be on hand to cover events at the festival, delivering live tweets and news on what’s happening in and around the town. (Twitter @The_Pickled_Egg)

Last year, The Pickled Egg reviewed over fifty events during the two-week period of the festival reaching thousands of satisfied readers – including a number of speakers who commented on our reviews.

And this year we aim to do even better.

We have teamed up with expert reviewers at The Bookbag (www.thebookbag.co.uk) to ensure our readers get the best inside knowledge of speaker’s events.

The Bookbag is an online site featuring books from all the many walks of literary life – fiction, biography, crime, cookery and many other categories.

Whether you are searching for a comfortable read for the coming autumn months or a swashbuckling adventure novel for the kids, reviewers at the bookbag will be on hand to advise you on your book of choice.

The successful site, with an audience of around 60,000, will be commenting on a number of authors attending this year’s Ilkley Literature festival, giving us their expert advice on which books to add to your collection.

Among the big name authors descending on the town this year are ; travel writer and former Monty Python star Michael Palin, Olympic television presenter Clare Balding, booker prize winner Pat Barker, alongside radio presenter Jeremy Vine, children’s author Michael Morpurgo and poet Benjamin Zephaniah to name but a few.

There are over 220 events to choose from in this year’s festival ensuring there is something to entertain every member of the family from toddlers and teens to centenarians!

As usual tickets sold out within minutes to the big name events but there are still plenty of tickets to be had and festival goers are encouraged to check with the venue for any last minute returns on the day.

Information on the festival can be obtained from the litfest website at www.ilkleyliteraturefestival.org.uk (box office 01943 816714) and for more details on events still available keep an eye out on the Pickled Egg website www.pickledegg.info.
